The Society

Llantwit Major Local History Society. Founded in 1967, the Society seeks to preserve and promote the great heritage and 1500 year history of the settlement at Llaniltud Fawr (St Illtud’s great church) and the surrounding area. Llantwit Major Local History Society celebrated its 50-year anniversary in 2017.

All the photographs and images on this site are therefore copyright. This also includes the contents of our publications.

AIMS OF THE SOCIETY

1. To foster interest in the history of Llantwit Major and its surroundings.
2. To promote research into its history, customs and traditions.
3. To recover and preserve documents, prints and photographs of the town.
4. To make and preserve a visual, written and sound record of the town past and present.
5. To encourage the preservation of ancient rights, sites, buildings and footpaths.

Copies of the Society’s constitution are available to members on request.

Evening meetings take place in the Llantonian Hall at 7.30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month.

Morning repeats are held at CF61 on the Thursday one week later at 11 a.m.
